Abstract

Reception: December 3, 2016     Accepted: December 22, 2016 Although several authors (e.g. Johnson-Laird, 2011; and Fisher, 2004) have recently questioned the usefulness of logic in everyday argumentation, the present text asserts its usefulness in at least three aspects: 1) the refutation of theses and arguments in general, 2) the identification of certain common fallacies and 3) the evaluation of deductive arguments. Specific examples and previous studies are given to strengthen the evidence.
